Leaving for Honduras!

Aaron is leaving for Honduras at 3am on Monday! He'll be working with Dr. Pilch (emergency medicine) and Global Brigades/Illinois Wesleyan University students for the next week in a clinic. Leaving for the Congo!

Jason & Aaron are leaving for the Republic of Congo! They will be volunteering at the Pioneer Christian Hospital in Impfondo. They fly into Brazzaville on Monday and will be heading to Impfondo on Friday. Aaron will be there until April 21 and Jason until April 8. Christina Creel, Jen Hoefert, and Vanessa Eulo, 4th year medical students at Rush Medical College, are leaving for India today! They will be there February 14-28, 2015. Located in Anaikatty hills on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, they will have the opportunity to care for about 150 villages with a population of nearly two lakhs (unit in the Indian Numbering System equal to one hundred thousand). With specializations in Cardiology, General Surgery, and Maternity departments, they also care for patients from nearby cities such as Coimbatore. We will be posting some updates as we hear from them, and be sure to check out their blogs!

Leaving for the Dominican Republic

Aaron Tabor, the founder and president of Make A Change International, will be leaving for Peralta, Dominican Republic tomorrow morning with a group from Rush University.  He will be working with a group of surgeons in an area that Rush has been visiting for the past 10 years.  Be sure to check out his blog: http://aaron-makeachange.blogspot.com/ for updates!  If he has internet access while down there, he'll definitely be posting, but if not he will update it with posts when he's back.

501(c)(3) Federal Tax Exemption

Great news!  Today we received a notification from the IRS stating that Make A Change International, Inc was determined to be exempt from federal income tax under the IRC section 501(c)(3).  Donors can now deduct contributions they make to us under the IRC section 170.  We are also now qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522.  We have been deemed a public charity.  Our Federal Identification Number (EIN) is: 47-1469744.

Filing for tax exemption

On August 11th we submitted our 1023EZ application for federal tax exemption.  The wait for approval should be about 4 weeks.  We will keep you all updated!  Becoming a 501(c)(3) organization will be huge for our fundraising efforts moving forward!
